MBRC Masters – Spring 2017

The main masters event for early spring was the Sarasota Invitational regatta. The team won 7 medals- led by Eli’s win in masters singles – also medaling in singles were – Anthony Touzard (3rd) and Abraham Issa (2nd). Our 2 novice singles- did exceptionally well in their first regatta- Gabriella Touzard- 2nd, and Derrick Smith (2nd). Bob Wright and Eli also won 3rd in the 2X as did Anthony and Gabriella. Thanks to Sanjay, our junior team member for coxing and helping coach the 8. Other team members raced well, fighting some stiff winds , rough water and tough competition. Well done all.

Our less experienced, mostly first year racers- aided by Alex Rojas and Mary McCaffrey, raced a mixed 8 and women’s quad. Despite tough winds both performed well, and enjoyed their experience. Pauline – Thanks for getting everyone involved..

This winter and spring we have enjoyed an influx of new rowers, who continue to develop their skills, aided by more experienced members- our thanks go to these for helping to encourage and teach the new members.

May 18th we begin evening rowing – please sign up on team app so we can plan the row. Launching before 7 pm to make best use of daylight, so come at 6.45. We are also aiming to have a social  ”happy”  hour after rowing. More fun than erging!

Following the success of the picnic row, we are planning another row to Oleta State park in late June, see Team App for details.

We are always looking to introduce new people to rowing, so please suggest to friends etc to either do the learn to row or come along to see how great rowing at MBRC is. Share the fun!!
