Dr. Ronald Shane Honored by the City
On Wednesday 25th October Dr. Ron Shane was honored by the City of Miami Beach with a Proclamation and a key to the City for his commitment and achievements at the watersports center and his contribution to the City of Miami Beach. October 25, 2023, was named Dr Ronald Shane Day!
Dr. Shane was the leading visionary behind the development of the Miami Beach Watersports Center nearly 30 years ago. Providing both financial support and management acumen, the former president of the medical staff at Mt. Sinai Medical Center oversaw the construction of the original boathouse, a one-story structure at 6500 Indian Creek Drive. Over time, the facility’s success required adding a second story to the center, as well as a second boathouse nicknamed “the annex.”
Under Dr. Shane’s leadership, the Miami Beach Watersports Center has trained rowers who went to the Olympics, and hired coaches who competed at them. Though not a rower himself, it is not an exaggeration to say Dr. Shane created a facility that has become a landmark and a contributor to the fabric of Miami Beach and will serve this city for generations to come.
Dr Shane recently retired as chairman of the board and now holds the honorary title of chairman emeritus.
